Namaqualand is a vast and arid region extending from the west coast to the small town of Pofadder in the east. It covers approximately 170,000 square miles areas from the Orange River (north) to the Garies (south). The place is divided into two parts where Little Namaqualand located on the south and Great Namaqualand on the North.

Little Namaqualand forms part of Northen Cape Province and Great Namaqualand is in the Karas Region of Namibia. Great Namaqualand is sparsely populated by the Namaqua, a Khoikhoi people. Namaqualand is very popular with tourist especially during early springtime. During this time it is difficult for the tourist to imagine the phenomenon of the yearly wild flower appearance. The arid area was covered with a colourful orange and white daisies spring up from a previously barren site. This is known as Namaqualand daisy season. However, there is a part of Little Namaqualand known as Richtersveld has been declared the World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Kom Ombo was originally called Nubt (City of Gold). The town was 50km north of Aswan which was the important routes for traders from Nubia to the Nile Valley. During the reign of Ptolemy VI Philometor (180-145BC), it became a training depot for African war elephants.

According to the history, the Temple of Sobek and Haroeris or popular known as Temple of Kom Ombo was built during this era, Ptolemy VI. It is a double temple stands right on the bank of The Nile River between Edfu and Aswan. Since the bank of the Nile River was a favorite spot for crocodiles to bask under the sun, so the temple was dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god and Haroeris, the falcon-headed god Horus.

This unique Temple has two set of courts, halls, sanctuaries and rooms which was built for each of gods. The southern part of the temple was dedicated to Sobek-Re (The crocodile god combined with the sun god-Re, his wife-Hathor and their son-Khonsu). While the northen part of the temple was dedicated to the falcon-headed god Haroeris, also known as Horus the Elder together with Tasenetnofret (the Good Sister) and Panebtawy (Lord of the Two Lands).

There are three crocodile mummies were displayed in the Chapel of Hathor near the entrance of the temple.
