Namaqualand, South Africa
Namaqualand is a vast and arid region extending from the west coast to the small town of Pofadder in the east. It covers approximately 170,000 square miles areas from the Orange River (north) to the Garies (south). The place is divided into two parts where Little Namaqualand located on the south and Great Namaqualand on the North.
Little Namaqualand forms part of Northen Cape Province and Great Namaqualand is in the Karas Region of Namibia. Great Namaqualand is sparsely populated by the Namaqua, a Khoikhoi people. Namaqualand is very popular with tourist especially during early springtime. During this time it is difficult for the tourist to imagine the phenomenon of the yearly wild flower appearance. The arid area was covered with a colourful orange and white daisies spring up from a previously barren site. This is known as Namaqualand daisy season. However, there is a part of Little Namaqualand known as Richtersveld has been declared the World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
